My apartment complex recently sent a letter to all of its residents * i assume is was to all * stating that we needed to have rental insurance and show them proof or we would be evicted.... can they legally do that to people. i mean we have the insurance because its the right thing to do but what about thoes who cant afford the extra cost? or who simply just dont want it

i wouldnt really worry too much about it, its probably just a way to cover their own ass in case anything happens, or they have had a slew of claims gone bad in the recent past. and besides you have it anyway so no worries

Sounds like the landlord may have possibly made a deal with the insurance broker to sell you their products. Insurance is a good idea just in case you need that security net and protection.
